Tripura University has officially approved the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the operation of Student Welfare Fees (SWF) to provide financial assistance to eligible and deserving students. This regulation governs the waiving of tuition, laboratory, and hostel (mess) fees for students facing financial constraints.
Objectives and Benefits
The SWF aims to predominantly support needy students by waiving tuition and laboratory fees and/or hostel mess charges to eligible students who cannot pay due to extreme poverty or other financial difficulties. The fund is generated from multiple sources, including student contributions, university special allocations, alumni donations, and income from student-centric activities.
Eligibility Criteria
- Students belonging to Antodaya and BPL families as per family ration card are eligible.
- 50% of tuition and laboratory fees and 50% of hostel mess fees may be waived for up to 10% of students under this category.
- Financial assistance for hostel mess fees is provided on a case-by-case basis.
- Priority is given to students enrolled in non-professional courses.

Students desiring assistance must apply formally to the Dean of Students Welfare with a recommendation from the department head and provide relevant documents such as a university identity card and Antodaya/BPL ration card. They must declare that they have not received any other scholarships or financial aid from government or institutional schemes in the academic year. The beneficiary students are required to maintain the attendance as mandated.
Selection Process
- Applications will be scrutinized by a committee comprising the Dean of Students Welfare, heads/coordinators of departments, registrar’s nominee, finance officer’s nominee, hostel wardens, and academic officers.
- The committee assesses each applicant on eligibility, merit, and other criteria and recommends a list for the Vice-Chancellor’s approval.
- Financial assistance is granted for the duration of the program and must be applied for each semester afresh.
- Weightage is given 70% for low income Antodaya/BPL status and 30% for merit or attendance.
Withdrawal of Benefit
Financial assistance may be withdrawn if the student’s performance declines for two consecutive semesters or if the student is found guilty of misconduct such as indiscipline, ragging, sexual harassment, misstatement of facts, criminal acts, or inadequate attendance.
Additional Information
PwBD students with 40% or more disability are entitled to complete fee waiver on submission of a valid disability certificate.
The SOP and its procedures enhance support to financially vulnerable students, ensuring fair and transparent disbursal of benefits.
