How to use it

  2. Set the target75% is filled in; change it to the figure in your university's ordinance.
  3. Plan the coming weeksThe result says how many classes in a row you need, or how many you can miss.

Who sets the minimum

UGC does not fix a minimum attendance for UG and PG degrees: its 2025 regulations leave it to each university, with the approval of its statutory bodies. Your university's ordinance or academic calendar gives its figure and any rules on condoning a shortfall.

The formula

Attendance = classes attended / classes held x 100. To reach target T from below, attend n classes in a row, where n = (T x held - 100 x attended) / (100 - T), rounded up. To stay at or above T, you can miss n = (100 x attended - T x held) / T classes, rounded down.

Questions students ask

How many classes can I miss and keep 75%?

With 60 classes held and 50 attended (83.33%), you can miss 6 more: 50 out of 66 is 75.76%, while a 7th absence takes you to 50 out of 67, 74.63%.

How many classes must I attend to reach 75%?

With 40 held and 25 attended (62.5%), you need 20 classes in a row: 45 out of 60 is exactly 75%.

Does UGC require 75% attendance?

No. UGC leaves the minimum to each university (UGC Regulations 2025). Your university's ordinance gives the figure and the rules on condoning a shortfall.
