The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the availability of two helpline numbers aimed at providing support to candidates of competitive examinations such as Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), Common University Entrance Test (CUET), and University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET).

Helpline Numbers and Availability

A toll-free helpline number 1800-180-4747 is operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This number is currently being trialled as the agency tests its services. Additionally, candidates can contact a help desk at 011-69227700, which is available daily from 8 am to 10 pm.

Important Advisory for Candidates

NTA cautions candidates against fraudulent activities and clearly states that its official helplines will never request passwords or one-time passwords (OTPs) during calls. Candidates are advised to use only the official NTA channels for accessing examination schedules, public notices, admit cards, and results.

Background: Proposed AI-Enabled Helpline

This initiative follows NTA’s earlier plan to develop an AI-enabled helpline for examination queries, which was also employed by a High-Powered Task Force led by Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani for consultation on examination reforms until September 13, 2026. The AI-powered service aimed to address routine questions related to exam dates, application forms, fees, deadlines, eligibility, and to support multiple languages for ease of access.

Current Status and Candidate Recommendations

Although the new helpline numbers have been launched, the 24/7 toll-free number is still in a trial phase, and NTA has not confirmed the implementation of all proposed AI functionalities. Candidates are recommended to continue verifying all deadlines, eligibility criteria, and application procedures through the official examination websites and notifications.
