Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is adopting AI technology alongside manual evaluation to assess answer sheets, ensuring faster, transparent, and error-free exam results.

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has begun using artificial intelligence (AI) technology in assessing students’ answer sheets. This initiative combines AI evaluation with traditional manual checking to increase transparency and reduce errors in the examination process.

The Controller of Examinations at BHU has been tasked with installing the required device. Initially piloted at the Institute of Management Studies last semester, AI-based digital evaluation is now planned to be introduced across all faculties and departments.

BHU is preparing to invest about Rs. 1.75 crore in this new system, which includes producing special 40-page answer booklets with advanced security features like barcodes, QR codes, and OMR standards. Scanning will be done using overhead scanners without cutting or damaging the booklets, minimizing the risk of lost or torn pages.

The evaluation process maintains strict confidentiality of student identities. Once marking is complete, the AI system automatically generates score sheets and summary pages. Students can view their evaluated answer sheets and marks via the student portal.

If students find discrepancies in their marks, they can apply for revaluation or review within seven days of the result publication.
